Planetary Resources Incorporated

Planetary Resources Incorporated

Planetary Resources Incorporated (PRI) is a megacorporation headquartered in Withmore City. Formed in 2102 through the merger of Shinohara Heavy Industries and Skywatch Orbital Research, its interests span industrial manufacturing, robotics, security systems, freight logistics, and asteroid mining. PRI also manages the dome's climate, power, and airspace systems.

Operations

PRI's business reaches from the infrastructure supporting Withmore to the machinery used to move freight and work beyond Earth. Its portfolio includes commercial, industrial, and military vehicles, robotic components, communications equipment, and security installations.

Within Withmore, the corporation maintains the PRI Citadel, a robotics factory in Red Sector, and a Secure Logistics Showroom. Its industrial operations include paid boxing work, continuing the employment associated with the former Shinohara Heavy Industries.

Products and Technology

Robotics

PRI produces components for industrial, utility, and military robotics. Its branded range includes EcoDrift excavation arms, UtilBot arms, MiliTech limbs, and MetaSyn gynoid components.

The corporation also supplies the systems that power and control robotic assemblies. These include the RX-7e robot controller, PowerMan and Brainiac control units, the X-Series Type-3 Advanced Neural Bus, and an ethicol-fueled robot powerplant. Its propulsion products include Microjet flight thrusters, TurboJet racing thrusters, and EconoJet long-range thrusters. Work lights, speech synthesis modules, and robotic explosive ordnance disposal tools round out its range.

Freight and Industrial Equipment

PRI's vehicle lines include the Hercules 48x heavy-freight AV, Scarab 24x cargo AV, and Locust 88x hoisting AV. These aircraft reflect the corporation's involvement in cargo transport and heavy lifting.

Its smaller industrial products include the PRO ARC-X11 arc welder and WB81R water system scanner, extending the PRI brand into workshop and infrastructure maintenance equipment.

Security and Electronics

PRI supplies security equipment ranging from cameras and motion detectors to access panels, weapon detectors, intercoms, and integrated security switchboards. Its security catalog also includes SICid identification systems and SkyWatch High-Band radio rigs.

The corporation's consumer electronics include handheld electronic notepads and the VoiceNote digital recorder. PRI developed the MP7 compressed audio format in 2108, used by digital recorders to store audio on e-memory.

History

The United Nations approved the merger of Skywatch and Shinohara Heavy Industries in August 2102, following a turbulent quarter for both companies. The resulting corporation combined Skywatch's orbital and infrastructure interests with Shinohara's industrial operations.

One of PRI's most prominent projects is the Earth Defense Grid. In November 2107, the corporation announced that the United Nations had commissioned a network of more than 3,000 armed satellites to protect Earth from rogue asteroids. Some satellites were already in orbit and ready for testing when the project became public.

In June 2108, New Light Media reported allegations that PRI had built backdoor access into the satellites, potentially allowing it to retain control after their transfer to the United Nations. PRI denied the allegations, and the UN dispatched an Inquisitor to Withmore to investigate.
