Withmore City is dominated and largely controlled by megacorporations, who through some avenue or another own or have stakes in virtually all parts of the city. Media, commerce, industry, medicine, and conflict all flow from them, whether publicly or through their shadowy influences. Corporate Government

The city's founding investment consortium, Withmore Hope Inc, dissolved in 2040. The Corporate Council was Withmore's original governing body, representing the corporations that helped found the city. In January 2060 it ceded governing power to the Withmore City Council and became an advisory board. Many citizens still believe the Corporate Council is where the real power lies.

Former Corporations and Predecessors

The city's corporate history also includes companies that closed or merged into other businesses.

• TekSoft was a small technology corporation and an NLM subsidiary. It closed in January 2089 after a catastrophic Matrix failure and the draining of corporate and citizen bank accounts. The cause remains unknown. Testing malfunction, hackers and corporate espionage are among the theories, but none has been established.
• Shock Security supplied security systems for cred chips, vehicles and weapons, with most services devoted to armed escorts and personal security. It went bankrupt in mid-2097 and is defunct.
• Shinohara Heavy Industries and Skywatch Orbital Research merged in 2102 to form Planetary Resources Incorporated.
